Patience and Cooking

Of all the Virtues, I have feel like I don't have any patience. Some may disagree, but I feel like I have a really short fuse and being pregnant doesn't help. I love to cook with Brett, some of you may think that that would try your patience, but for some reason I love it. It is that little extra one on one time that Brett and I get, where together we are focused on a single goal. Ok, well maybe Brett doesn't stay that focused, but at least he has my undivided attention. Surprisingly enough we make it though our cooking sessions with no disasters, that is until saturday while making Dad's valentine's cookies.

I was making the frosting for our cookies and needed more powdered sugar. As I was measuring the sugar out,I some how managed to shoot powered sugar out of the bag and all over Brett. Brett was a little taken back by what happened, but then he started to laugh. In the end we all got a good laugh and a cute picture. Even Mom isn't perfect.

Valentines for Dad

For Valentines day Brett made his dad some sugar cookies and decorated them. It was so much fun, and Dad loved his cookies. Of course he made Dad about two dozen, so we are helping Dad eat his cookies. Brett's favorite part was decorating the cookies, and I was getting a good laugh helping. Here is a little video, see if you can tell which kind of sprinkles Brett likes!

We had a great Valentines day!

My Grandpa

In my Christmas post, I mentioned my grandpa. At the time I did not have any pictures and I wanted to post some. I dug around for some today and here is what I came up with.

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Tuesday and Thursday are our hardest day. Dad leaves us at 8am and doesn't get home until 7:30pm. This makes it for a very long day, for Brett and I. I finally came up with a plan, we decided that Tuesdays and Thursday had to be fun days. So we have taken up painting, crafts and best of all cooking.

When I first started implementing this plan, I never dreamed that Brett and I would have so much fun together. I never knew the kind of joy that we would get out of cooking together in the kitchen. Now Brett and I cook on Tuesdays and do our other crafty fun things of Thursdays. Brett is a pro in the kitchen(and he is super cute in an apron, which we passed up today), so today I couldn't resist taking pictures/video. We made a Spanish Flan, so for your enjoyment.

Brett also loves to test all of the ingredients, while we are making our treat(like the bread we made yesterday). Don't worry I promise that he is not allowed to test anything potentially hazardous!!
I know from the pictures that our kitchen is a little messy, but I assure you that we completely cleaned the kitchen before dad got home.
We had the Flan for desert, and dad said that we did a great job!!

My Hero.....My Dad!

My dad is the type of hero that would run into a burning building to save a life. My dad is a firefighter, he loves his job. I remember as a little girl, staying up listening to the police/fire scanner during a lightening storm, and hear the fire trucks roll as they were called to fires.

My papa is not only a hero to others but to me too. As a teenager I may not have always told him how much I loved him, in fact I may have told him how much I hated him more. Even through all of that, I will always remember cuddling on the couch with him, after I would get into trouble. I will treasure every memory of our famous hodgson family sandwich, on sunday afternoons. I remember going to the fire station and seeing where he worked and slept. I will remember the time that I got to ride in the fire engine at the parade and pull the horn. I will never forget all the barbecuing that he did for all of my parties in High School. I will definitely never forget, when I dented the car and I lied about it. I thought that I would be in so much trouble. When I finally told dad, I will never forget the look on his face when I told him. As he stretched out his arms to me, and held me. I will never forget the love I felt. I will treasure the moment and the song that played, as my papa and I danced at my reception. I will not forget the way I felt as my papa stood in the circle with Jon and blessed my little boy.

My daddy loves to build things. He loves to work with his hands. He loves to being active.

Two weeks ago, I found out that my dads heart murmur had turned into something serious. I guess while we were home for Christmas, he thought that he had had a heart attack. Not wanting to "destroy" Christmas he said nothing. He has gone to the doctors and had tests run. We are still waiting, still praying.

I have been trying to prepare myself, for what may come. I have thought long and hard, not only about dads condition, but about the past, and about the future. All I can say is, that when Heavenly Father calls him home, I know that a piece of my heart will go with him. I fear that it will be as great of a void as grandpa left. I keep praying that that day maybe far off.

My father is a great man, of course he may not think so. But I know he is, as sure as the sun rises in the morning.

To my Papa, I hope that you will always know of my love for you. It is unconditional, I love you to pieces. Thanks you for your love and support!!

No, means just that.......NO!!!

I really hate it when people don't understand the meaning of no. You may wonder how Brett and I co-exsist. It may be no surprise that I have a lot of tolerance for those who really truly don't understand.

I wouldn't even be posting about this, but in the last week I have had my fill of it. It all started last weekend, when we got new cell phones with a new company(if you want our new numbers, email me, my address is on the side bar). I called the old company and explained that I wanted to cancel my plan. Here is the conversation that followed:

Lady: Oh I am sorry to hear that. Are you planning on keeping your number?
Me: I wish I could but I can't
Lady: would you like to keep your numbers for future use?
Me: No, Thanks
Lady: Are you sure, It would only be a small monthly fee?
Me: No, thanks
Lady: Are you sure you want to cancel, you have a great plan?
Me: I am sure, we already have a new plan with another company
Lady: Do you know anyone who might want to take over your plan
Me: No, everyone I know has a cell phone. I just want to cancel.
Lady: So I just want to make sure that you want to cancel your plan completely. and you don't want your numbers?
Me: YES!

I assure you the conversation was much longer and extremely annoying. Then tonight we get a credit card bill in the mail. I noticed that this "free" service that said company was offering was not free, I checked last months bill and then made my phone call to cancel the "free" service. And the conversation naturally went like this.

Me: I want to cancel _______.
Lady with horrible accent: can you verify all of Jonathan's info
Me:_________________________.(for security I will not post my response:))
Lady: Thanks for the verification, you want to cancel _________?
Me: Yes, we were told that it was free and this is the second bill that I have been charged for
Lady: Well as you pay your bill_______will go down in price.
Me: Well we are starving students and can't afford it
Lady: ok I understand, before I can cancel it I need to talk to Jonathan
Me: ok, hold on
verification goes on between her and Jon
Lady: Before I cancel this, I want to let you know that I can lower the price and it would be cheaper , if it is the price that worries you.
Me: no we are not interested, we just want to cancel it
Lady: ok are you sure?
Me: YES!!

Am I speaking german? Was I not clear enough? I think that their problem in both cases, is that they don't want to lose any money. So they pester me to death, when I call to cancel. As if some how their constant hounding is going to make me change my mind. Trust me when I say no, it means just that NO!! Unless you are one of my two favorite people in the world!

An Important Phone Call

After I got Brett up from his nap on last Monday and changed a diaper, I decided to snuggle him in his rocking chair. He was pointing at things and telling me what they were. All of the sudden the phone rang and I said, "Who is that, Brett?" Brett looked at me and said, "Jesus." Our caller was not Jesus, but is just as important to us(daddy). I wish that Jesus would call me, once a day/week, shoot I would even take once a month. What would he say to me? Would I be showered with praise or would I be chastized? How long would the call last? Several minutes or hours? Would I ask Him for things I need, or would I complain about my life? Would I fall asleep during our conversation, like I do during prayers? I am grateful however that the scriptures that we read every night help Brett to understand that Christ is the center of our lives, he is our all. Even though his parents are not perfect, we are trying our hardest to make sure that he knows what is important to us.

One a lighter note, this past week we have been playing music everyday. Brett loves to come up to us and say, "dance, dance." Or he wants us to pick him up and then dance with him. Today in sacrament during the closing hymn, Brett was standing on the ground between pews telling dad and I to dance, while he was doing his own little jig!! Ah, the joys of Motherhood. I love my little guy!!
